Pin Hole Camera, 2007-2008
I created pinhole cameras out of 35mm film canisters and captured self-portraits in my third floor apartment on Winter Street in Portland, Maine. When it was too cold to go outside, I turned my attic apartment into a photo studio. My bathroom was a darkroom. I had a wooden board that sat across the top of my claw-foot tub, which is held my developer, stop, and fix trays. I had painted the sides of the tub black as not to reflect light while developing prints and film. Despite the semingly “gloomy monocramatic” tones, the images were shot in a time of colorful self-discovery.
